Marciac (town)

A Gascon bastide built around one large central square, with two landmark bell-towers over it. The jazz is year-round here: the Territoires du Jazz museum tells the history of the music in twelve themed rooms — unique in Europe, the regional tourist board says — and the Astrada hall keeps a programme running through every season. Wednesday morning is the market, on the square; the lake, laid out in the early 1960s, is the walk.
