Abbaye Saint-Pierre de Moissac

Year round

An inscription on one of the cloister pillars dates it to the year 1100 and names the abbot who built it — precision almost unheard of for a Romanesque cloister. Seventy-six capitals survive, forty-seven carved with narrative scenes. The church next door is free to walk into even if you skip the ticket. Allow an hour; the carving is the point and rushing it is pointless.
